SESSIONLY
PAYMENT, REFUNDS AND CANCELLATION POLICY
Version 2 · Effective date: 4 September 2026
What changed in this version. Experts can now cancel a session at short notice, which they previously could not. Section 7 says what that means for you — you are refunded in full, automatically, whenever it happens.
Sessionly, a California general stock corporation, entity number 6142110.
This policy forms part of the Sessionly Terms of Service. It explains what you pay, when you are charged, and what happens when a session does not go ahead.
1. What you pay
The price of a session is set by the expert and shown before you book. That is what you pay. We do not add a booking fee, a service charge or a markup.
Sessionly makes its money from a platform fee that the expert pays out of the price you paid. It comes out of their share, not yours.
All prices are in US dollars. If your card is issued in another currency, your bank sets the exchange rate and may add its own fee. We have no control over either.
2. When you are charged
You are charged in full when you book, not when the session happens.
*On your bank statement the charge will read SESSIONLY followed by your expert's name, shortened to fit* — for example, SESSIONLY MARIA. Banks limit how much of it we can send, so depending on length you may see their full name, their first name, or a shortened version. We put the expert's name there on purpose, so that a charge you might otherwise not place is recognisable.
The payment is taken by Sessionly; the expert is not charging your card.
Payment is processed by Stripe on Stripe's own pages. We never see or store your card number.
3. The free introductory session
A new student can book one free 15-minute introductory session, once, for the lifetime of their account. Not one per expert — one, ever.
That quarter of an hour is given by the expert, who is not paid for it. Sessionly charges no fee on it either.
If you cancel a free intro, the entitlement comes back automatically and you can use it with someone else. If you book one and do not attend, it counts as used. Email us and we will look at it — restoring one is something a person does by hand, so tell us what happened rather than expecting it to reappear.
4. Cancelling a session
More than 24 hours before the start time: cancel free. Your card is refunded in full, automatically.
Within 24 hours of the start time: you are charged in full and the expert is paid.
There are two states and no sliding scale. We considered a tiered schedule — a partial charge the closer you get — and rejected it, because every additional tier is another number that can disagree with the ones around it, and partial charges mean partial refunds and partial payouts for a rare event.
Once a session has started it cannot be cancelled — the window closes when the session is due to begin. If something goes wrong during a session, end it and email hi@sessionly.co, and we will look at what happened. That is covered by section 10 rather than by this section.
You can cancel from your own account, on the booking. In both cases the session stays on the calendar. If you cancel late and then turn up, the expert will be there.
5. Rescheduling
You can move a session from your own account, on the booking, up to 24 hours before the start time.
What moving a session does and does not do:
- Nothing is charged and nothing is refunded. The payment you already made moves with the booking to its new time.
- You may move a booking twice. After that, if the time still does not work, cancel it under section 4 or email us.
- The new time must be within 30 days of the time you originally booked.
- The 24-hour rule in section 4 runs against the new time, not the original one. Move a session and the cancellation window resets with it.
Inside 24 hours of the start time, you cannot move a session from your account. Email hi@sessionly.co and we will do what we can, but a change that late depends on the expert being free and we cannot promise one.
Because moving a session and cancelling one both close 24 hours before the start time, you cannot use a reschedule to get out of a late cancellation charge. By the time section 4 charges you in full, section 5 has already closed.
If an expert needs to move a session, they will contact you through us.
6. If you do not turn up
If you do not attend a session you booked and did not cancel in time, the expert receives their full share.
Sessionly takes no additional fee because of a no-show. We are not paid more when a session does not happen than when it does.
If you think that is wrong — you were there and could not connect, the expert never joined, the room did not work — email hi@sessionly.co before the payment is released and a person will look at it. Payments are not released automatically, so there is time.
7. If your expert cancels
You are refunded in full, automatically, however much notice they give you. There is no window and no sliding scale on their side — if your expert cancels, you get all of your money back.
If you used your free introductory session on that booking, the entitlement comes back to you.
You will be told why, in general terms — unwell, an emergency, a scheduling conflict, or other. You will not be shown anything the expert wrote privately, and we do not pass their explanation on to you.
Experts are asked not to cancel at short notice, and a late cancellation costs them something. None of that is yours to worry about, and none of it changes your refund.
8. If your expert does not turn up at all
Wait 15 minutes past the start time, then email hi@sessionly.co.
We will refund you in full, and the expert will not be paid for that session. If it was your free introductory session, we will put the entitlement back.
This one is done by a person, not by the system. There is no automatic detection of an absent expert — you have to tell us, and we act on it. We would rather describe that accurately than imply a process that runs on its own.
If the same expert does this more than once, tell us that too. A pattern is something we act on.
9. Refunds
Where you are owed a refund, it goes back to the card you paid with. Your bank decides how quickly it appears; typically several business days.
Sessionly charges no commission on any amount refunded to you. If money comes back to you, we do not keep a share of it.
10. Sessions that were not what you hoped
If an expert did not deliver the session — did not show up, ended it almost immediately, or the session could not happen because of a failure on our side — that is a delivery failure and we will refund you.
If the session happened and you did not find it useful, that is a different thing, and we will not usually refund it. We cannot judge whether someone's advice was good, and we are not going to withhold an expert's earnings over a disagreement about quality. What we will do is note it. A pattern of the same complaint about the same person is something we take seriously and act on.
This is also why the free introductory session exists — fifteen minutes to find out whether someone is a fit, before you pay for an hour with them.
11. Chargebacks
If you dispute a charge with your bank, your bank runs its own process and decides. Nothing in this policy shortens or removes your rights with your card issuer — those come from the card networks, not from us, and we could not take them away if we wanted to.
What we will do is respond to the dispute with the records we hold: the booking, the times, the price you agreed, and the emails we sent you.
Please tell us first if something has gone wrong. It is faster than a chargeback and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
12. How and when experts are paid
Money from a booking is held by Sessionly and released to the expert after the session, once that expert has completed their payment setup with our payment provider.
Release is done by a person, not on a timer. Every payout is looked at before it goes out.
This is slower than it will eventually be, and we would rather tell you why. Nothing in the product currently records who attended a session. Releasing money automatically would mean paying for sessions nobody can prove happened, so a human checks. When attendance recording exists, this will change and we will say so here before it does.
13. Changes
We may change this policy. If a change is material we will email you and update the date at the top.
A change never applies retroactively to a booking you already made — the version in force when you booked is the one that governs it.
Every version of this policy is retained. If you want to know what it said on a particular date, ask us.
